Terracotta Bust featured in H&D Sourcebook 2012
Katrina Roeckelein (TRINKA) is an award-winning sculptor working primarily in clay. After receiving her MFA in design, she established her career as a graphic designer in film, video and print for the Associated Press, various post-production houses in the Washington DC area and worldwide publishers like DK Publishing and Orchard Books.
Gradually her creative tool evolved from the computer to clay. She naturally embraced the 3-D component. Trinka creates both indoor and outdoor sculptures, most of which contain realistic interpretations of the animal or human form. She often adds an archetypal symbol derived from myth or her subconscious to the piece. Many of her
sculptures focus on the increasingly complex dualities of modern existence. Some are less realistic and include hybrid elements, centering on the co-existence between nature and people. Her pieces reflect the fantasy that arises by combining these parallel subjects through form, gesture and character.
Her work is seen in several venues and private collections. She welcomes commissioned projects.
